Hot or Not? Aldi’s skin & hair care are put to the test

1. Lacura Purity Exfoliating Wash 200ml $3.99 = HOT

  • Containing microbeads for gentle exfoliation of dead skin cells
  • Soap Free
  • Contains Vitamin E and Provitamin B5
  • I enjoyed this face wash, it removed the last remaining traces of my makeup and left my skin feeling clean and smooth. For the price, it was a great everyday face cleanser

2. Lacura Daily Defence SPF 30+ Moisturising Lotion $7.99 = HOT

  • Matte lightweight moisturiser
  • Can be used as a make-up primer
  • Fragrance and preservative-free
  • Suitable for sensitive skin
  • An excellent daily face moisturiser with the added benefits of SPF30+. The pump makes use easy and it absorbs into the skin leaving no oily residue.
  • To read my full review, please click HERE

3. Re-Gen Daily Face & Neck Serum 50ml $6.99 = NOT

  • Advertised as a serum, I would disagree and say it was more of a watery cream
  • Contains PLC Liquid, which according to Aldi help with skin regeneration
  • It says it is non greasy, and when first applied it did feel greasy, however after 5mins this did absorb into my skin.
  • Overall was not impressed with this product, it has a slight soap scent and didn’t really do anything for my skin
  • Dermatologically tested

4. Lacura Purity Targeted Solution Pimple Cream 20g $3.99 = NOT

  • Contains salicylic acid to help unclog pores and clear blemishes
  • Took about 4 days of use to see any real difference in my blemishes
  • Would recommend this for the girl who gets the occasional blemish but not for acne prone girls, as I think you would need something stronger.

5.  Protane Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo & Conditioner 400ml $4.99 ea= HOT

  • Shampoo/Conditioner are suitable for all hair types
  • Both are sulfate free
  • For a supermarket brand of haircare I was impressed with this duo. They left my hair feeling soft and moisturised.
  • I would not recommend this to girls with severely dry damaged hair, as I do not think this duo will be moisturising enough. I would recommend the Joico K Pak range for severely dry/damaged hair.
  • They do advise that they will protect your hair from UV damage, but I am not sure I agree with that claim.

6. Protane Moroccan Argan Oil 100ml $9.99 = HOT

  • Formulated as a hydrating treatment for all hair types
  • Alcohol free
  • A nice inexpensive hair oil, that absorbs instantly into hair and leaves no oily residue
  • Hair is left tangle free and soft
  • For best results, apply to damp towel dried hair

How to make you lips appear fuller and pouty WITHOUT cosmetic surgery!

Want to achieve that Angelina Jolie pout without resorting to expensive and painful surgery?

While I cannot promise Angie’s exact lips, I can offer you a few tips that will enhance your natural  lips and give the illusion of a fuller, poutier mouth.

  • Highlighting brings features forward. By highlighting a feature, you are drawing light and  attention to it.
  • Contouring brings features back. By contouring you are adding a shadow and making the feature appear sunken.

So, taking this into account, we can give the illusion of fuller lips with a few simple tricks.

  • Highlight your cupids bow. This is the V shape in the middle of your top lip. By adding a light shimmer here, we are drawing the light to this feature and making it appear more protruded, which gives the illusion of a poutier top lip. You can use a highlighter, such as Mac Soft & Gentle, or just a shimmery white eyeshadow.
  • Contour under your lower lip. By using a matte brown eyeshadow or bronzer, lightly tap your brush in the product and using a light hand, gently sweep this under your bottom lip. By contouring this area, we are giving the illusion that it is sunken in and therefore your lower lip appears poutier.
  • Add a dot of shimmer to the middle of your lower lip. Use your highlighter or shimmery eyeshadow to gently press a small amount of shimmer in the centre of your bottom lip. This will draw light to this area and it will appear larger.
  • Outline just outside your natural lip line. This works best when using a darker lipstick. Draw your lipline slightly outside your natural lipline, then apply your lipstick as usual. You can also highlight the cupids bow, centre of lips  and under the lower lip for an even poutier effect.

HOW TO GROW Your Eyelashes & Eyebrows

A cheaper alternative to expensive serums to grow thicker fuller lashes and eyebrows.

* Castor Oil (100% natural) – Available from Chemist Warehouse or Amazon

* Coconut Oil (pure virgin) – Available from health food stores or Coles. I use Coconut Magic

* Avocado oil (100% pure) – Not essential if you cannot find it

* Travel size container – Available from Priceline or Amazon

* Disposable mascara wands – Available from Priceline, eBay or Amazon

1. Fill one travel size bottle to the halfway mark with Castor Oil. No need to use a measuring cup, just use your eyes to see where approximately the halfway mark is. Then fill the rest of the bottle with Coconut Oil.

2. Optional: Add a few drops (2-4) of Avocado Oil.

3. Shake well to combine

4. Apply this every night before bed using a clean mascara wand to your upper and lower lashes.

**Store at room temperature and shake the mixture to combine before each use.

*** In the cooler months, if you find the mixture has hardened, simply run it under warm water to melt

REVIEW: Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel Exfoliant

Recently have come across a brand named Paula’s Choice. They claim to treat everything from:

Not yet convinced? How about their 100% guarantee that their products will work for your skin type? That’s a pretty big promise, so I decided to put it to the test trying the Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel Exfoliant, which is recommended for combination skin.

  • Effective for: Anti-Aging, Wrinkles
  • Light, water-based formula with 8% glycolic acid
  • Non-sticky gel exfoliates, fading sun-damage and smoothing dry areas
  • Reveals new, younger skin with increased firmness
  • Rejuvenates skin texture and tone
  • Soothing anti-irritants protect and calm skin
  • Stimulates collagen production
  • Clinically proven non-irritating
  • 100% fragrance free, no added dyes

Clear gel, this applied smoothly over my skin (being careful to avoid the delicate eye area), I applied this after cleansing and toning to dry skin.

It absorbed almost immediately and did not leave any shiny residue.

I did not experience any tingling or burning sensations, that I have with a lot of other exfoliants which was a pleasant surprise.

The morning after applying this, I did notice an improvement in my skin clarity and smoothness. My skin appeared brighter and it also helped to clear any blemishes I had which was a big plus in my books.

I used this every night for a period of 7 days and was really happy with how my skin looked and felt. It also helped to fade any left over acne scars I had on my cheeks.

I was happy to see that my skin never felt dry, flaky or red whilst using this product, which meant I could use it daily. I would even recommend this for men with back acne scars who are wanting to fade them.

Be careful not to apply this over any open pimples, otherwise you will irate your skin and it will sting!

I will continue to use this product and re-purchase it. As with any exfoliant, always use a sunscreen daily to protect your skin.
